AT&T has successfully used its exclusive agreement to provide service for Apple's iPhone as a way to take a bite out of other companies' subscribership. But it has faced criticism over spotty iPhone service in major cities, and many speculate the iPhone exclusivity agreement with Apple may expire soon, leaving the wildly popular smartphone available to other carriers.

AT&T boosts network investment
During its fourth quarter 2009 conference call, Chief Operating Officer John Stankey said AT&T plans to spend between $18 billion and $19 billion in 2010 upgrading its wireless and backhaul networks to handle the onslaught of new traffic, roughly $2 billion more than the company invested the previous year.
